Non-Violent Activist at a refugee camp

How do you convince refugees in the camp to use non violent methods despite all the challenges?

First of all, the problem….we are not armed, we are not two armies, the Israelian and the Palestinian army, so the violence is not the solution. So, the solution for us is to work with the children and to teach them how to act and to behave in a civil manner, and for the children it also means to give them education and tand this will give them the opportunity to have different professions. Because that we can use in struggle but in other ways than with arms. So, I explain that to the people and they will understand.

Some people maybe believe in violence but my work, my business is to make the people believe in the nonviolent resistence, to build the hope. I try to create hope in the social center, the young people didn´t have anything to do. That I tried to change. So like this we changed violence to nonviolence by creating activities in the social center, find positive energy, find life. The social center makes people feel alive and to feel hope”

Also in the social center in the refugee camp we learn the children how to be against each other, how to behave, how to ask and so on. We have a lot of different activities. And it is all about creating hope for a better future.

Where did you get your inspiration from? –  What made you choose non-violent methods?

My parents and the life inside the camp it´s. I believe that you have to establish to good customs, how to treat people and step by step change personality to more positive thoughts. And this you have to teach the children from the beginning.
